Key points

Smoking at Kansai International Airport (KIX) is permitted only in designated indoor smoking rooms inside Terminal 1 (full-service carriers — JAL, ANA, Star Alliance, SkyTeam, Oneworld) and Terminal 2 (LCC-dedicated, Peach Aviation and others). Under the revised Health Promotion Act (April 2020), terminal interiors are non-smoking by default. Check the latest map on Kansai Airports official (https://www.kansai-airport.or.jp/).

Airport layout

KIX is on an artificial island in Osaka Bay with two terminals: Terminal 1 (opened 1994, full-service carriers) and Terminal 2 (opened 2012, LCC-dedicated). Terminals are connected by free shuttle bus.

Designated smoking rooms by terminal

Terminal 1: multiple rooms in departure lobby (pre-security), international departures restricted area, domestic area, and arrivals. Terminal 2: smaller LCC terminal with rooms in departure lobby and restricted area. Specific locations are signposted inside the terminal and on the airport official site.
